I love to read just about anything, as long as it's fiction. I read for me - that means I read what I want, when I want. My reviews tend to mostly be based on how I'm able to personally connect with the story/characters. They are not intended to influence someone to read, or not read, a particular book. I always encourage people to take a chance and make up your own mind.
Oh, and I love chocolate.
I've read several historical romance novels, however it is not my 'standard' genre. This was also my first novel by this author.
The rating on this was difficult for me. Rating based on my standard genre puts it at a 3/5. However, rating based on only this genre (historical romance), then I would give it a 4/5. The result - 3.5.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Anne and Calum. I enjoyed the plot and appreciated that it didn't stick to the cookie-cutter format that many historical romance use. The main characters actually communicated with each other. They actually used common sense to realize the challenges in their relationship.
This book had all the key elements of a good historical romance - insta-chemistry, steamy hot love scenes, a hated villain, and suspense.
I'm happy to have discovered this author and look forward to reading more in the series.
